Amazon : Guiana Shield, Latin America: same fight !

The French Guiana National Park remains highly committed to regional cooperation. On Monday, March 18th, the steering committee of the RENFORESAP project was held in Paramaribo.

Coordinated by the French Guiana National Park and funded mainly through the Interreg Amazon Cooperation Program (PCIA), RENFORESAP aims to develop dialogue and exchange of experiences between protected areas of the Guiana Shield. Bringing together the PAG and its Surinamese and Guyanese partners, this meeting made it possible to assess the progress of the project. In particular, the organisation of a major workshop in Guyana from 13 to 17 May 2019 focusing on the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage in protected areas.

In the process, the deputy director of the French Guiana National Park, Arnaud Anselin, represented French Guiana during the meeting of protected areas of the * Amazon Biome held in Bogota, Colombia, on 21 and 22 March 2019. It was an opportunity to promote to other Latin American countries, the initiatives being carried out at the level of the Guianas in the field of nature conservation. It is also a question of reaffirming solidarity among all Amazonian actors to bring a strong message for the preservation of ecosystems in the next international deadlines, including the 15th meeting of the parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in China in 2020.

*The Amazon biome covers all the ecosystems present in the Amazon basin, among which largely dominates the Amazon rainforest. The largest tropical forest in the world, it has an exceptional biodiversity. But these immense forests are also places of life and sources of employment and income for millions of people.
